Electrification may not have one winner
ZF's TraXon Hybrid award underlines why fleet platforms may need to support battery electric, hydrogen, hybrid and combustion powertrains together.

One of the more interesting technologies at IAA came from ZF.
Its TraXon Hybrid transmission for heavy commercial vehicles received the Truck Innovation Award 2027.
ZF says simulations indicate potential CO2 reductions of up to 47% in long haul operation under defined conditions where the vehicle is regularly recharged.
Why is this interesting?
Because the commercial vehicle industry's transition may not be as simple as:
Diesel.
Then battery electric.
Different fleet applications may require different technologies.
Battery electric.
Hydrogen.
Hybrid.
Highly efficient combustion.
Autonomous electric vehicles.
Different solutions could coexist for years.
