Fleet data is moving closer to the underwriting decision

Underwriters are increasingly interested in sustained fleet safety trends, bringing telematics and driver risk data closer to insurance decisions.

The relationship between telematics and insurance is also changing.

HUB International published new guidance this month describing how underwriters are increasingly interested in sustained trends in fleet safety performance rather than isolated periods of good results.

AI driven video monitoring, predictive maintenance and driver risk profiling are becoming part of the information fleets can present during insurance renewal discussions.

This is strategically important.

For years, fleet technology providers have sold primarily to fleet managers.

But if better safety data can demonstrate lower risk to insurers, the value of that technology potentially extends directly into insurance pricing and claims.
