Tesla puts numbers behind its European FSD argument
Tesla says supervised FSD vehicles saw 4.1 times fewer collisions across more than 100 million kilometres of European data.
Tesla released European safety data this week as it seeks broader approval for supervised Full Self-Driving technology.
Tesla says vehicles operating under supervised FSD experienced 4.1 times fewer collisions than manually driven Teslas across data collected in five European countries.
The dataset covers more than 100 million kilometres between April and August 2026.
The company has also released a public safety dashboard.
There are important caveats.
Comparing assisted and manually driven vehicles is complicated by differences in roads, drivers, conditions and system usage.
Regulators will therefore need to scrutinise methodology rather than simply headline numbers.
WHY IT MATTERS FOR FLEETS
The autonomous-vehicle debate is increasingly becoming a data debate. The critical question won't be: Can the computer drive? It will be: Can manufacturers demonstrate that the computer drives more safely than humans? Once that can be demonstrated independently and consistently, the insurance and fleet economics surrounding autonomy could change very quickly.
